There are Some Things You Should Know about Starting a Blog
Recently it seems like everyone and their mother have started blogging. Fashion, makeup, travel, food, lifestyle, wellness, fitness, the list of blog types go on, but no matter what type, they are all on the rage. Which personally I think is revolutionary. People are wanting to write about personal aspects of their life as well as share popular/unpopular opinions, and philosophize current issues. Society is being vulnerable on the most public platform to exist, which is the internet. Literally, every single person in the world, that has access to the internet can read anything and everything people choose to put online. So maybe blogs are a trend right now, but they also require a lot of courage from the author. Trends and blogs also induce a lot of pressure to be perfect and comparing and contrasting to other bloggers. I've been guilty of it myself. So this blog post is going to be a little bit about my journey of how I started blogging and some helpful things to keep in mind when starting and continuing to blog.
I think I made my first blog in the Summer of 2015, which was the summer before I started college. I wanted to be a beauty and fashion blogger ( laughs at self because all I wear on a daily basis is leggings and a t-shirt). I made the blog on this same Square Space platform and never made progress with it so it was deleted.
Then I tried again January of 2016 and made a blog through the platform, WordPress. I got a feel of what I wanted to do, but over organized my blog into many categories that I got so overwhelmed with what "I was supposed to post". I put too much pressure on myself on being perfect and creating tons of content that I became completely uninspired.
Now here I am mid-2017 finally becoming happy, calm, and inspired about the content I am putting and will be putting out on my blog. I am simply a lifestyle blogger. I blog about my life and all that entails. It's been quite the process of getting to where I am now, and I still have so far to go, and I'm letting that excite and inspire me, not scare me.
Now here are the things:
Discover not only what you're passionate about, but what you're inspired to write about and want to share. Then after that, stick with it. Stay true to yourself.
Have a purpose for your online presence. Readers want to benefit from taking their time to read your work. Whether that's a new recipe you've created, makeup products that have changed your life, or experiences from your life that hold a life lesson
Don't compare someone's 2-year-old blog to your 2-week old blog. Of course, there are people who are more established with hundreds of posts, but they all started somewhere too.
Don't put so much pressure on yourself. This is supposed to be a hobby or an outlet. Don't get caught up in the followers and likes. You do you, and you write and post whenever you want.
You will succeed if you want to succeed. This is something I have to keep in mind as well. If you want something in life you have to put in the time and effort, and that's the same requirements for running a successful blog.
